of <h1>India Raises Customs Duty on Sugar from 15% to 40% under Notification No. 26/2014-Customs</h1> The Government of India, through the Ministry of Finance, has issued Notification No. 26/2014-Customs to amend the previous Notification No. 12/2012-Customs dated 17th March 2012. This amendment increases the customs duty on both raw and refined/white sugar from 15% to 40%. The changes are made under the powers conferred by the Customs Act, 1962, and are deemed necessary in the public interest. The amendments are specified in the notification by substituting the entry for customs duty to 25% against specific serial numbers in the original notification.
