of <h1>Precious stones imported on approval or return basis exempt from customs duty subject to inspection and payment on approved lots</h1> Notification exempts precious stones imported by post on an 'approval or return' basis from payment of customs duty, subject to written application with supporting documents, physical receipt and inspection at the post office in the presence of customs and postal officers, supervised sorting into approved and unapproved lots, immediate payment of duty on approved lots and payment of any inspection fees. The exemption is time-limited by a substituted expiry date in the notification notes.
