India and UK Sign MOU to Strengthen Cooperation on Customs Offenses with Enhanced Information Sharing and Assistance.
The Union Cabinet approved a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between India and the United Kingdom to enhance cooperation in preventing and combating customs offenses. The MOU facilitates mutual administrative assistance through information and intelligence sharing, adhering to national laws and resource availability. It aims to enhance capacity by exchanging information on customs law enforcement techniques, technologies, and best practices. The agreement includes a Service Level Framework for timely responses to requests, aiding Indian Customs in detecting and investigating customs violations, particularly in import under-valuation and export over-valuation. This replaces a previous MOU from 2001 to meet current needs.
