India and Germany signed agreements to effectuate four important development projects funded by German Official Development Assistance amounting to over Rs. 3320 crores. The projects fall in the realm of renewable energy, power generation and immunisation. The projects include supporting lines X and XI of the Pulse polio program, financing Pare Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh, supporting the sustainable energy programs by Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) and setting up a 2x800 super critical thermal power plant at Krishnapattnam in Andhra Pradesh.

The major chunk of the funds will go towards setting up this super critical thermal power plant with a new German technology with assistance of around Rs 2000 crores. North East Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) shall use the funds for construction and operation of a 2x55 MW Hydropower Plant in Arunachal Pradesh with a soft loan of over Rs 580 Crores. The agreement includes providing soft loan for supporting the Sustainable Energy Programme of IREDA for which an amount of Rs 370 crores is being provided for promoting renewable sources of energy and energy efficiency measures in industrial enterprises and buildings. German government has been supporting the Pulse Polio Immunization program since its inception through grants. The line X & XI of the Programme will be provided concessional loans to augment country's efforts to eradicate polio.
