Multiple petitions challenge Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across states, hearings scheduled in November-December
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear multiple petitions challenging the Election Commission's decision to conduct a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and other states. A three-judge bench issued notice to the Election Commission on these fresh challenges, which allege legal infirmities in the SIR process across different states. Given upcoming local body elections, petitions relating to Kerala have been directed to be listed on November 26, while matters concerning other states will be heard in early December. The court is already seized of related challenges by various political parties to the pan-India SIR exercise, including in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
