Chief minister to meet prime minister to discuss sugarcane farmers' demands, water project approvals and possible leadership talks
The state chief minister will meet the prime minister in New Delhi Monday afternoon, with travel and meeting times set for late afternoon and an evening return. The agenda is expected to include sugarcane farmers' demands and pending approvals for two inter-state water projects. The chief minister had written earlier seeking talks, attributing the farmers' distress to central policy levers including the Fair and Remunerative Price formula, stagnant minimum support prices, export curbs and under-utilised ethanol off-take. Though not on the official schedule, the chief minister may also meet the national party leadership amid speculation of a mid-term leadership change and cabinet reshuffle; the deputy chief minister has met the party president in Delhi.
