Markets slip as profit-taking and heavy foreign institutional selling outweigh domestic buying, major indices drop on mixed cues
Benchmark equity indices fell in early trade, with the 30-share index down about 261 points to 83,677 and the 50-share index down about 63 points to 25,659, driven by profit-taking and foreign institutional selling. Several large-cap stocks were leading decliners while select banks and industrials gained. Foreign Institutional Investors sold equities worth approximately Rs 6,769 crore on Friday, while Domestic Institutional Investors purchased about Rs 7,068 crore. Market commentary attributed the pause in the rally to recurring FII selling on rallies and said sustained upside would likely require clearer indicators of a turnaround in corporate earnings.
