Asia-Pacific leaders adopt non-binding joint statement reaffirming cooperation on trade, investment liberalization, supply chains, AI governance, Putrajaya Vision 2040
Leaders of 21 Asia-Pacific economies adopted a non-binding joint statement reaffirming commitments to regional economic cooperation, investment liberalization and the Putrajaya Vision 2040 principles, following a bilateral de-escalation agreement between the U.S. and Chinese presidents. The communiqué and subsidiary statements call for coordinated responses to trade tensions, supply-chain stability, AI governance and demographic challenges but do not create new legal obligations or enforcement mechanisms. Bilateral meetings signalled potential diplomatic engagement on denuclearisation and sanctions relief with a non-APEC state, which may affect future negotiation positions but remain subject to separate bilateral or multilateral legal processes.
