New SOP implements Sections 49-53 RPwD Act for NGO registration, yearly inspections, one-year certificates, renewal rules
The state government issued an SOP governing registration, monitoring and renewal of NGOs and institutions serving persons with disabilities, implementing sections 49-53 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and designating the commissioner for disability welfare as the competent authority. Entities must register under the Societies Registration Act, the Bombay Public Trusts Act or section 8 of the Companies Act and demonstrate stated objectives (empowerment, training, research, rehabilitation), adequate staff, financial capacity, accessibility and compliance with prescribed norms. Applications go to district authorities, undergo a district inspection committee review within 30 days, and approved bodies receive a one-year certificate and unique ID. Annual audited accounts and reports are mandatory; renewals must be sought 60 days before expiry. Registrations are subject to at least yearly inspection and may be revoked for legal violations, misuse of funds, failure to deliver benefits, financial irregularities or exploitation.
