Party leader urges Election Commission to restore credibility and ensure no eligible voters excluded after SIR roll cuts
A political party leader urged the Election Commission to fulfill its constitutional duty to ensure no eligible voter is excluded in the upcoming state assembly elections, citing problems from a recent special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll that reduced electors from 7.89 crore to 7.42 crore; the Supreme Court intervened to permit Aadhaar and other documents for registration. The leader called for restoration of the EC's credibility and for free and fair polls. The elections are scheduled for November 6 and 11 with counting on November 14; coalition seat-sharing was said to be imminent.
