<h1>National executive to inaugurate new international airport NMI on October 8; licensed, phased private-state consortium to begin operations December</h1> The national executive will inaugurate a new international airport on October 8 at 2:40 pm; the airport received its aerodrome licence from the aviation safety regulator on September 30 and is expected to become operational from December. The project is being developed in phases by a consortium in which a private developer holds a 74% stake and the state land development authority holds 26%. Designated with the airport code NMI, it will be the second airport in the metropolitan region and, when fully complete, is projected to handle 90 million passengers and 3.2 million metric tons of cargo annually.
