The project is being developed in phases by a consortium in which a private developer holds a 74% stake and the state land development authority holds 26%. Designated with the airport code NMI, it will be the second airport in the metropolitan region and, when fully complete, is projected to handle 90 million passengers and 3.2 million metric tons of cargo annually.
