Opposition urges chief minister to stop neighbouring region's illegal dam height increase threatening downstream water and irrigation rights
An opposition leader accused the state chief minister of neglecting state interests as a neighbouring state approved raising a dam's height from 519 m to 524.2 m, reportedly doubling storage and risking downstream irrigation and drinking water. The leader alleged prior unlawful expansion despite a Supreme Court cap, said previous submissions to the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal II were weak, and noted a petition filed in October 2023 to safeguard state rights. He urged the chief minister to use parliamentary leverage to press the Centre, halt the dam-raising and present stronger arguments before KWDT-II.
