Regional railway moves 6,400+ tonnes of apples by parcel trains in two weeks after service launch
A regional railway division transported over 6,400 tonnes of apples from Kashmir to Delhi by parcel trains within two weeks after starting the service on September 11. Each parcel van carried about 23 tonnes; a railway official reported a coach reached Adarsh Nagar, Delhi, from Budgam in under 21 hours and another reached Jammu in under six hours. On September 15 a senior government official flagged off an eight-van parcel train to Delhi. The service expansion coincided with closure of the 270-km Jammu-Srinagar highway following heavy-rain damage between August 26 and September 6.
