London, Sep 17 (PTI) Britain’s King Charles III sent a Kadamb tree as a birthday gift to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 75th birthday on Wednesday.
In a gesture inspired by Modi’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” environmental initiative, the British High Commission in New Delhi revealed in a social media post that the tree sampling reflects their shared commitment to environmental conservation.
“His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to send a Kadamb tree to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday,” the British High Commission stated.
“The gesture, inspired by PM Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, reflects their shared commitment to environmental conservation,” it said.
The theme of the gift resonates with the Prime Minister’s visit to the UK in July, when he met the 76-year-old monarch at his Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, eastern England, and presented him with a tree sampling.
“During his visit to the UK in July, PM Modi gifted His Majesty the King a ‘Sonoma’ tree as part of the same initiative. Collaboration on climate and clean energy is a key pillar of the Commonwealth and the UK-India partnership as set out by the two PMs [Modi and Keir Starmer] in Vision 2035,” the British High Commission noted.
In July, Modi said environmental sustainability, Yoga and Ayurveda as well as the India-UK Free Trade Agreement, known as Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), signed between him and Starmer were among the topics covered during his meeting with Charles.
“We discussed different aspects of India-UK relations, including the ground covered in trade and investment in the wake of CETA and Vision 2035. Other subjects of discussion included education, health and wellness, particularly Yoga and Ayurveda, which are subjects His Majesty is very passionate about. We also talked about environmental protection and sustainability,” he said at the time.
The sapling he presented to the King is to be planted at the Sandringham estate during the current autumn planting season.
Modi has been receiving a flurry of birthday calls and messages from several world leaders, including from US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, European Union President Ursula Von Der Leyen and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, among others. PTI AK SCY SCY
Diplomatic gift: Kadamb tree exchange underscores environmental diplomacy and links to India UK trade and Vision 2035 cooperation. King Charles III presented a Kadamb tree to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a diplomatic birthday gift tied to Modi's tree planting initiative, reciprocating a sapling previously given to the King. The exchange is framed as environmental diplomacy reflecting shared conservation commitments and is set alongside broader India UK policy dialogue on climate collaboration, clean energy and trade under Vision 2035 and the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.Press 'Enter' after typing page number.
