Interim ministers order urgent cleanup, damage assessment and reconstruction planning after deadly protests that burned parliament
Three ministers from the interim government inspected the parliament building and ordered immediate cleanup, repair and reconstruction planning after protesters set fire to Parliament and other government properties during violent demonstrations that caused at least 72 deaths and precipitated the ouster of the prime minister. The government formed taskforces to assess structural damage, will prepare engineering designs to rebuild the parliament in its original model, and temporarily relocate parliamentary work to a new secretariat building. Authorities initiated a campaign to solicit domestic and diaspora support for reconstruction and police began cataloguing burnt vehicles (121 four-wheelers, 158 two-wheelers).
