Govt advances crop procurement start, expands warehouses to 30 lakh tonnes, clears Rs 6,200 crore, approves mill distance cut
State and central government officials agreed to advance the state's crop procurement start date before the scheduled October 1, expand state warehouse capacity to 30 lakh tonnes under the Private Entrepreneurs Guarantee scheme, and authorize early release of Rs 6,200 crore in pending central-pool payments for wheat and rice. The Centre approved reducing the minimum distance between sugar mills from 25 km to 15 km and endorsed a pilot to lower the PDS broken-rice share from 25% to 10%, increasing the state's procurement target. The state reported readiness to implement three newly introduced central criminal laws and will host related outreach events and a fortnight of public service activities.
