<h1>Two booked for cheating and criminal conspiracy after alleged impersonation to defraud victims seeking NHPC and defence contracts</h1> Two individuals were booked by the Crime Branch Kashmir's Economic Offences Wing for cheating and criminal conspiracy after a complaint alleged they falsely posed as influential persons able to secure NHPC and defence contracts and induced victims to pay substantial sums; no contracts materialised. A preliminary inquiry begun in 2023 prima facie found impersonation and deliberate misrepresentation amounting to deception and fraud. A case has been registered and further investigation into the allegations is ongoing.
