of <h1>Major port reports 16.02% cargo rise April-August 2025, moves 28.236 MMT as Haldia and Kolkata volumes jump</h1> A major Kolkata port reported a 16.02% increase in cargo handled during April-August 2025, moving 28.236 million metric tonnes (MMT) versus 24.337 MMT in the prior year period. The Haldia dock complex handled 20.625 MMT, up 13.23% from 18.216 MMT, while the Kolkata dock system rose 24.35% to 7.611 MMT from 6.121 MMT. Port leadership attributed the gains to operational improvements and staff efforts and indicated ongoing commitments to enhance efficiency and infrastructure to support rising trade and economic contribution.
