NATO expects all 32 members to hit 2% GDP defence target; only three on track for 3.5% plus 1.5% resilience
NATO data projects all 32 members will meet the longstanding 2% of GDP defence-spending target this year, while only three are on track to meet a newly agreed 3.5% target plus an additional 1.5% commitment for resilience and mobility measures. The increase follows security concerns from a regional war and external political pressure from a major ally. One large Western member finalized a late budget and expects to reach 2.4% in 2025 and 3.5% by 2029. Higher spending is concentrated in eastern European members, with several exceeding 3.5% of GDP this year.
