<h1>Former madrasa principal and wife arrested in Rs 24.92 crore pre-matric scholarship fraud; 46 charged, 32 absconding</h1> The Economic Offences Wing arrested a former madrasa principal and his wife in Hathras in connection with a Rs 24.92 crore pre-matric scholarship fraud from 2011-13, involving fictitious student lists. An inquiry found 62 institutions colluded with the then-minority welfare officer and others to siphon funds; 81 persons, including three public servants and 78 private individuals, were implicated. Charge sheets have been filed against 46 accused. The two arrested are alleged to have misappropriated Rs 38.10 lakh; authorities are seeking 32 remaining absconding suspects. The arrests were made under a state-wide EOW operation and the suspects will be produced before court.
