Government probes over 12,000 bank accounts for alleged diversion of Rs 1,500 women's scheme payments to men
The state government is scrutinising over 12,000 bank accounts of men alleged to have received payments under a scheme that provides Rs 1,500 monthly to eligible women, to verify authenticity and whether instalments meant for women were credited to male household members. Officials say Aadhaar seeding was undertaken for the scheme's accounts, and earlier data indicated about 26.34 lakh recipients included potentially ineligible persons, duplicate beneficiaries, multi-scheme claimants and cases of men applying. Benefits to suspect accounts were stopped from June 2025; district collectors will verify eligibility and the government will restore payments to eligible recipients and pursue action against those found to have misled authorities after consultations with senior state officials.
