Government reaffirms unchanged policy toward self-ruled island, stresses economic and technological ties amid misquote controversy
A government reaffirmed it has not changed its position on a self-ruled island, saying its relationship with that territory remains focused on economic, technological and cultural ties, after a foreign ministry of another country misquoted its minister as saying the island is part of the latter state. During bilateral talks, the first government noted it maintains non-diplomatic but growing trade and cooperation-including in semiconductors and a recent migration and mobility pact-and observed the second government also engages the island in similar domains. The first government reiterated continuity of its policy and disputed the reported remark.
