Over 26,000 Fatalities on National Highways in 2025 Despite Advanced Traffic Management System Deployment
Approximately 26,770 fatalities occurred in road accidents on National Highways during the first half of 2025, with 52,609 fatal accidents reported in 2024. The National Highways Authority has implemented an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) on high-traffic and expressway corridors to enhance incident detection and response times. ATMS installation is included in new high-density and high-speed highway projects and is also deployed as standalone systems on existing corridors. Additionally, road safety audits have been conducted over 112,561 kilometers of National Highways in the past three years to improve highway safety and management.
