Three Indian companies launch country's first mid-haul re-powered electric truck for sustainable freight transport
Three Indian companies have launched the country's first mid-haul re-powered electric truck, marking a significant advancement in sustainable freight transport. The 8-ton vehicle features an indigenously developed electric powertrain and can travel up to 250 kilometers on a single charge while carrying full cargo. The truck will operate on intercity routes between major cities, with fast DC charging stations installed at strategic partner depots. Each vehicle is estimated to prevent over 50 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. This initiative represents the first time a heavy-duty truck in India has been retrofitted with a fully electric powertrain for mid-range operational routes, addressing a segment traditionally underserved by electric mobility solutions. The project demonstrates EV retrofitting as a cost-effective and scalable approach to decarbonizing India's freight sector.
