Chief Minister calls for tripling agricultural productivity through better scientific research utilization by farmers
The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh emphasized the urgent need to accelerate agricultural research and innovation at the 36th Foundation Day of the state's Agricultural Research Council. Despite having vast fertile land, abundant water resources, and 86% irrigated cultivable area, only 25-30% of farmers effectively apply scientific research in their fields. The state produces over 20% of India's foodgrain output with just 11% of the country's agricultural land, but the official believes productivity could triple with better utilization of resources. The Chief Minister stressed that research must be tailored to local soil, climate, and environmental conditions rather than adopting foreign solutions. With over 15 agricultural research institutions and 89 science centers already operating, the state aims to contribute to India's vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047 and achieving a USD 1 trillion economy through enhanced agricultural advancement.
