Assam launches Rs 5 per litre milk subsidy scheme for farmers supplying cooperative societies
The Assam government launched a milk subsidy scheme providing farmers Rs 5 per litre of milk supplied to cooperative societies for processing. The initiative aims to boost dairy production, increase farmer income, and create a dairy revolution in rural areas, benefiting over 20,000 dairy farmers statewide. Simultaneously, groundbreaking ceremonies were conducted for expanding a cooperative union processing plant in Guwahati, doubling its capacity from 1.5 to 3 lakh litres per day. The Rs 104-crore expansion project, developed under an MoU with the National Dairy Development Board, will increase pasteurised milk production to 2.0 lakh litres daily and add new ice cream production facilities. The upgraded plant, currently the largest dairy processing facility in the Northeast region, supports the state's Dairy Development Plan targeting 10 lakh litres daily processing capacity across the formal dairy sector.
