Malawi Energy Minister visits India to learn battery storage technology for clean energy transition and grid modernization
The Energy Minister of Malawi led an official delegation to India for knowledge exchange on battery energy storage systems, supported by the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet. The minister met with India's Cabinet Minister for New and Renewable Energy to discuss clean energy partnerships, grid modernization, and energy transition challenges. The delegation visited South Asia's largest standalone utility-scale battery storage facility at a Delhi substation, which has generated over $290,000 in power procurement savings within three months. The visit aims to facilitate South-South cooperation in clean energy, with Malawi seeking to adopt India's experience in battery storage and digital grid solutions. Malawi, which already derives over 70% of its capacity from renewables, is constructing a 20 MW battery storage project and targets providing electricity access to 2.7 million additional households under Mission 300, which aims to electrify 300 million people across Africa by 2030.
