Affordable transcatheter mitral repair expands access as Indian-made device enables minimally invasive option for high-risk patients.
A minimally invasive Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER) using a MyClip device was performed on a high-risk 75-year-old male with severe mitral regurgitation, severe pulmonary arterial hypertension and NYHA Class IV symptoms who was unfit for conventional mitral valve replacement. Performed under conscious sedation with echocardiographic and fluoroscopic guidance, device deployment reduced regurgitation from severe to mild and the patient's symptoms improved to NYHA Class II within 24 hours. The case is reported as the first in the Telugu states and marks use of an Indian-made device to improve affordability and access to structural heart interventions.
