Opposition demands MCOCA against accused in Mithi river desilting scam worth over Rs 1,000 crore
Opposition legislators in Maharashtra's legislative council demanded invoking the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act against accused in alleged Mithi river desilting irregularities. The case involves missing silt worth over Rs 1,000 crore, where contractors were supposed to dispose of 16,70,000 metric tonnes of silt removed from the river but it was not found dumped anywhere. Mumbai police's Economic Offence Wing's Special Investigation Team is investigating, with two arrests made and some accused securing anticipatory bail. The Enforcement Directorate has also taken cognisance of the case involving alleged organized crime between officials and contractors.
