Rupee gains 13 paise to 85.92 against dollar on ceasefire hopes and strong equity opening
The rupee strengthened 13 paise to 85.92 against the US dollar in early trading, driven by hopes of ending hostilities between regional powers and strong domestic equity market opening. The local currency had posted its steepest single-day gain in nearly five years the previous session, rising 73 paise. However, rising global crude oil prices and foreign institutional investor outflows limited further gains. Brent crude increased 1.30 percent following a US-brokered ceasefire. The dollar index remained marginally higher while domestic equity markets opened positively with significant gains in major indices.
