A meeting was held between Prof. K.V. Thomas, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Shri Anand Sharma, Minister for Commerce, Industry and Textiles, today to review fall in domestic price of natural rubber in the month of December, 2012. While taking note of the recent fall in rubber prices, it was noted that the domestic price of natural rubber still remains above the landed cost of imported rubber. The Expert Committee of the Rubber Board also met yesterday and reviewed the situation with all stakeholders. The Department of Commerce is keeping a close watch on the movement of prices of natural rubber in the international and domestic market. The Government is committed to protecting the livelihoods of about 12 lakh rubber producers in the country.
