Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an accused Inspector of Central Goods & Service Tax (CGST), Regional GST Office, Prayagraj (UP) for demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs. 10,000/- from the complainant.

A case was registered by CBI on 03.05.2025 against two accused Inspectors of CGST, Regional GST Office, Prayagraj, UP on allegations that accused demanded a bribe amount of Rs. 10,000/- from the complainant to carry out physical verification of his company, required for the purpose of GST Registration of the said company.

CBI laid a trap and caught one of the accused Inspectors red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs. 10,000/- from the complainant. Later, accused was arrested and will be produced before the Court of Learned Special Judge, Anti Corruption, CBI Court No. 1, Lucknow.

Investigation is continuing.

Bribery by tax official leads to arrest after a trap operation and initiation of anti corruption criminal proceedings. An Inspector of the Central Goods & Service Tax office was accused of demanding and accepting a bribe to perform the physical verification necessary for GST Registration. A case was registered against two Inspectors, a trap operation was executed, one Inspector was caught red handed and arrested, and further investigation is ongoing.
