Wholesale Inflation Drops to 2.05% in March as Food Prices Ease Despite Rise in Manufacturing Costs
Wholesale inflation in India declined to a 6-month low of 2.05% in March 2025, down from 2.38% in February, primarily due to easing food prices. Food inflation decreased to 1.57% from 3.38%, with significant deflation in vegetables (15.88%) and potatoes (6.77%). Onion inflation also moderated to 26.65% from 48.05%. Meanwhile, manufactured products inflation increased to 3.07%, and fuel and power showed a 0.20% rise after previous deflation. Economists expect wholesale inflation to remain around 1.5% in the near term, supported by satisfactory rabi crop output and low commodity prices.
