Small Business Sustainability Index Drops 5.3% in Q4 Despite Implementation Growth; 85% Plan New Measures
The Sustainability Perception Index (SPeX) for MSMEs declined 5.3% in Q4 2024 compared to Q3, despite implementation dimension rising 41%. Overall SPeX increased 8% year-over-year. While awareness and willingness dimensions fell 11% and 12% respectively, 85% of MSMEs plan to adopt additional sustainability measures in the next two quarters. Implementation costs and capital availability remain key challenges. Efficiency gains, compliance requirements, and peer pressure were primary adoption drivers in 2024. Medium-sized firms lead in sustainability commitment (95%), while established businesses value stakeholder attractiveness as a primary benefit. The perception that sustainability serves only select global clients has declined, reflecting broader global sustainability mandates.
