Tourism Association Calls for Accelerated CNG Station Development to Reduce Travel Costs and Attract More Visitors
The president of Shimla Hotel and Tourism Stakeholders' Association advocates for expediting the establishment of CNG stations in Himachal Pradesh to boost tourism. While some stations already exist in various districts with nine more approved in 2024, the association urges faster implementation. CNG's advantages include being 40% cheaper than petrol with better fuel efficiency, which would reduce travel costs for tourists. This could attract more visitors from neighboring regions like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, especially for weekend trips. The association notes that average tourist stays in Shimla have declined from 3.8 days in the 1970s to 1.7 days currently.
