Former Union Minister Challenges Chargesheet in INX Media Money Laundering Case Over Missing Prosecution Sanction
The Delhi High Court advanced the hearing of a former union minister's plea against cognisance of a chargesheet in the INX Media money laundering case from August 13 to May 13, due to urgency. The accused's counsel argued that when the trial court took cognisance in 2021, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) hadn't obtained requisite sanction for prosecution as the accused was a public servant. The ED countered that money laundering allegations weren't part of official duties. The case involves alleged irregularities in a Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance for INX Media receiving overseas funds during the accused's tenure as finance minister in 2007.
