<h1>1,000 Patients Registered for Rare Disease Treatment; New Funds Allocated for 2024-26 Under National Policy</h1> Around 1,000 patients with rare diseases are registered with Centres of Excellence, according to the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare. Rs 118.82 crore was allocated for rare disease treatment in 2024-25 and Rs 299.59 crore for 2025-26. Health is primarily a state responsibility, but the Union Ministry has implemented the National Policy for Rare Diseases, 2021. This policy categorizes 63 disorders as rare diseases and provides financial assistance of up to Rs 50 lakh per patient through 13 identified Centres of Excellence. Medicines for rare diseases are exempt from basic customs duty and the Integrated Goods and Services Tax.
