Developed by Applied Research International with input from IIT Madras and port officials, the simulator cost Rs 60 lakhs. It aims to improve the skills of pilots and maritime professionals, particularly for night navigation on the challenging River Hooghly. The simulator provides realistic training scenarios, reducing the need for on-board practice and shortening training periods. It will also aid in research and development for optimizing port operations. SMPK, managing a 232-km navigational channel, benefits from this advancement in maritime safety and efficiency.
