CAG Report: Chhattisgarh Fails to Devolve Funds to Panchayati Raj, Highlights Budget Shortfalls and Waste Management Issues.
The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report highlights that the devolution of funds, functions, and functionaries to Panchayati Raj institutions (PRIs) in Chhattisgarh has not occurred, with these bodies still operating under guidelines from the undivided Madhya Pradesh era. From 2017-18 to 2021-22, the state allocated less budget to PRIs and urban local bodies than recommended. The report also noted issues in solid waste management, with unplanned infrastructure development leading to unfruitful expenditure and ineffective monitoring. Additionally, the Korba Municipal Corporation overpaid a contractor due to incorrect rate application for materials used.
