Farmers Resume Onion Auctions After Protest Over Export Duty and Price Drop Concerns
Onion auctions at Lasalgaon APMC in Nashik resumed after farmers temporarily halted them due to a protest against declining prices. The protest, involving 15 farmers climbing a water tank, demanded the removal of a 20% export duty, which they blamed for the price drop. Previously, prices for onions ranged from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,201 per quintal for the summer crop, and Rs 800 to Rs 2,005 for red onions. After assurances from the state Agriculture Minister, the protest ended. On Tuesday, auctions continued with 13,000 quintals of onions arriving, and prices for the summer crop ranging from Rs 600 to Rs 1,951 per quintal.
