Assam Ministers to Submit Report on ST Status Demand for Six Communities by March
A group of ministers (GoM) in Assam is set to submit a report by March on the demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status by six communities: Moran, Matak, Ahom, Chutia, Koch-Rajbongshi, and Tea Tribes. The report aims to be presented before the current budget session ends. The GoM, reconstituted under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has concluded discussions with stakeholders to resolve differing opinions. The Leader of Opposition urged that ST status be granted without affecting existing ST benefits. Following the minister's assurance, the resolution was withdrawn.
