Chhattisgarh Cuts 9.5% Excise Duty on Foreign Liquor to Combat Smuggling and Stabilize Market Prices
The Chhattisgarh government has decided to eliminate the 9.5% additional excise duty on foreign liquor, making it cheaper by Rs 40 to Rs 3,000 per bottle. This change, part of the new Excise Policy for 2025-26, aims to reduce smuggling and stabilize the market by maintaining uniform liquor prices. The Chhattisgarh State Beverages Corporation Limited will continue managing the wholesale procurement and distribution of foreign liquor, while the infrastructure development fee remains unchanged. Additionally, the state has approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Vyakti Vikas Kendra India for rural livelihood and welfare initiatives.
