Central Government has issued notification no. 34/2008 dated 13-3-2008 to make it mandatory for taxpayers to pay tax through payment mode mandatory.  In the sequence, now RBI issued directions (RBI/2007-08/280 dated 10-4-2008) to the banks for implementing the Government Notifications.

 

 

Mandatory electronic tax payment required; banks instructed to implement the government notification via central bank directions. Mandatory electronic payment of tax is required for specified categories of taxpayers effective 1.4.2008; the Central Government notified the requirement and the central bank issued directions to banks to implement the notification and facilitate electronic tax remittance by affected taxpayers.
