Initially sourcing oil from the Middle East, India shifted to Russian oil due to significant discounts amid Western sanctions on Russia. This shift increased Russian oil imports from less than 1% to 40% of India's total imports. Alongside China and Turkey, India accounted for 74% of Russia's fossil fuel revenue. Indian refineries processed Russian crude into fuels exported to Europe and G7 countries, with the EU being the largest importer of these products.
