Odisha Removes 3.9 Lakh Deceased and Ineligible Beneficiaries from PDS During e-KYC Verification, Assures No Disruptions
The Odisha government has removed 3,90,814 deceased and ineligible beneficiaries from the public distribution system (PDS) database during an ongoing e-KYC verification process. This includes 3,28,932 deceased individuals and 61,882 ineligible beneficiaries identified through field verification. Despite the removals, all existing beneficiaries continue to receive rations. The e-KYC process aims to be completed by March, with 2.99 crore beneficiaries already verified. Opposition parties have raised concerns about potential issues for eligible beneficiaries, especially those outside Odisha and small traders. The government assures that no eligible person will be deprived of their foodgrain quota.
