Tripura Invests in Fisheries: Rs 43 Crore Aqua Park and Expanded Pisciculture to Boost Fish Production by 3,000 Tonnes
Tripura's government is implementing measures to boost fish production to meet the state's growing demand, which currently exceeds local supply by 32,000 metric tonnes. The state imports fish from Bangladesh and other Indian states to bridge this gap. Efforts include expanding pisciculture across 38,000 square kilometers and creating new water bodies through central and state initiatives. A Rs 43 crore integrated aqua park is being developed in Unakoti district, anticipated to produce up to 3,000 metric tonnes annually. Additionally, Rs 160 crore was allocated in the state budget for fisheries development, with significant support from the North Eastern Council.
