Previously, the company focused on hydro, wind, and solar energy. The Khurja project, located in Uttar Pradesh, is a 1,320 MW coal-based thermal power plant with an investment of approximately Rs 13,000 crore. The plant incorporates advanced technologies to reduce environmental impact. Once fully operational, it will generate 9,264 million units annually. The power distribution will primarily benefit Uttar Pradesh, with allocations also to Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and other regions. THDC India is a collaboration between NTPC and the Uttar Pradesh government.
