Bombay High Court criticizes Mumbai Police for slow Torres scam probe; orders protection for whistleblower under threat.
The Bombay High Court criticized the Mumbai Police for their slow investigation into the Torres investment scam and ordered protection for a chartered accountant who claims to be the whistleblower. The scam involves the Torres jewellery brand, accused of defrauding investors through Ponzi and MLM schemes. The Economic Offences Wing has arrested three individuals, including two foreign nationals, but many accused remain at large. The court expressed concern over the police's inaction, which allowed some accused to flee, and ordered them to secure crucial evidence and ensure a thorough investigation. The whistleblower sought protection due to threats following his revelations.
