Appointed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Pandey previously led the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management and the Department of Public Enterprises. A 1987-batch IAS officer from the Odisha cadre, Pandey has held various significant positions in both the Union and Odisha governments, including roles in the Planning Commission, Cabinet Secretariat, and Commerce Ministry. He holds a Master's in Economics from Panjab University and an MBA from the University of Birmingham.
