These towns, producing goods worth Rs. 750 crore or more, can access benefits like financial assistance for export promotion and authorization under the Export Promotion Capital Goods Scheme. The threshold is Rs. 150 crore for sectors like handloom, handicraft, agriculture, and fisheries. The recognition process involves proposals from industry associations. Notable towns include Tripur for hosiery, Ludhiana for woollen knitwear, and Surat for gems and jewellery, among others. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
